Bus Crash That Killed Band Director, Teacher In Hudson Valley Caused By Faulty Tire: NTSB
A charter bus crash that killed two Long Island educators on a Hudson Valley highway in 2023 was caused by a damaged tire, according to the final accident report. The report – released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Thursday, July 24 – found that prolonged underinflation and prior impact damage caused the left-front tire to blow. That sent the bus careening through a cable barrier and tumbling down an embankment on I-84 in Wawayanda on Sept. 21, 2023. The death of Gregory "Greg" Swenson, a new father, educator, and lifelong athlete, is spreading shock and sadness across multiple states. Greg, 29, of Cranford, NJ, died peacefully on Saturday, July 12 following a short illness, according to his obituary on the Gray Funeral Home. It'll soon be wheels – and paws – up for a new airline taking off from a Long Island airport. RetrievAir, a pet-centric airline built entirely around traveling with dogs, will begin service out of Republic Airport (FRG) in Farmingdale, the company said in a news release on Wednesday, Mar. 26. Flights will begin on Thursday, May 22. From the executive airport, RetrievAir will offer service to seven US cities with weekly departures. 17-Year-Old Who Died During Hockey Game In NY Was 'Beacon Of Sportsmanship, Leadership'
The Long Island hockey community is mourning the loss of a rising young star who collapsed and died during a charity game over Thanksgiving weekend. Connor Kasin, age 17, lost consciousness at around 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said. Kasin, a senior defenseman at Massapequa High School, was given CPR by bystanders and, later, Nassau County Police medics. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.
