The suspect in both the mass shooting at Brown University and the killing of an MIT professor has been found dead by suicide, officials announced Thursday night, Dec. 18.
He was identified in an affidavit (attached at the bottom of this news article), and signed Thursday in Rhode Island as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, 48, a former Brown University student and a national of Portugal, whose last known address was in Miami, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said at a press conference. Officers ID Teen Behind Mass Shooting At Waterbury Mall; Police Still Looking For Gun
Police say a 19-year-old man, who was out on bail, is responsible for the mass shooting at a Waterbury mall on Tuesday, May 27, that sent five people to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Tajuan Washington, of Waterbury, is charged with five counts of first-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, criminal use of a weapon, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, and illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, Waterury police said.
Washington is being held on a $2 million bond.
