Eleven people from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Florida have been charged in what federal prosecutors described as a years-long multimillion-dollar scheme involving fraudulent temporary license plates used to evade tolls, parking tickets, and vehicle registration fees.
The defendants linked to the scheme were arrested between Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced on Wednesday.

A Long Island man stabbed his mother more than 40 times on Mother’s Day before police shot and killed him while responding to the scene, authorities said.
Steven Eastwood, 28, was identified Monday, May 11, as the suspect in the attack at a home in Northampton, the Southampton Town Police Department said.
Eastwood’s mother first called 911 just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 10 to report her son was being drunk and violent in their home on Topping Drive, police said.

A New England man is accused of posing as a teenager online to sexually exploit a Pennsylvania girl, police announced on Friday, April 24.
John Pulk, 33, of Maine, turned himself in following the investigation, according to the police.
Pulk is charged with sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, and related offenses, Lower Southampton Township Police said.

A Connecticut man wanted on multiple domestic violence charges tried to outrun police before he was found hiding in the woods, authorities said.
Angel Montanez, 24, of Bridgeport, was spotted Thursday, April 23, driving on the Route 8/25 connector just before noon, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
Police said Montanez was wanted on a felony warrant for multiple domestic violence incidents reported on April 19, 20, and 22 involving multiple victims, according to police.

A Connecticut man is accused of slamming into two police cruisers while trying to escape officers in a stolen car, authorities said.
Jahari Dorsey, 25, of Hartford, was taken into custody shortly after the crash, which unfolded early Friday, Feb. 20, around 2:43 a.m. Officers had been alerted to a stolen red Ford Focus near Park Road and Prospect Street in West Hartford, officials said.
West Hartford officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled, striking two cruisers as it passed, police said.
