As the Northeast bakes under dangerous triple-digit heat, a Long Island father is accused of leaving his toddler son alone in a parked car while he went shopping. The incident happened outside the Walmart at Centereach Mall at around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, according to Suffolk County Police. Oppressive heat across the Northeast is forcing Amtrak to slow down its trains. Amtrak sent out a warning to travelers about the heat-related restrictions on Tuesday, June 24. Many Northeast cities along the East Coast from Massachusetts to Virginia were forecasted to have high temperatures at or above 100 degrees.
