A police investigation into animal cruelty uncovered disgusting living conditions at a home where three children live.
Ansonia police went to the Schumacher Drive home on Thursday, April 23, after receiving reports of possible animal cruelty and unsafe conditions.
What they found raised serious concerns.
Inside the home were 39 dogs and 2 ferrets. Two women and three children, ages 15, 5, and 2, were also living there.
Police reported garbage, animal feces, and urine throughout the house. The conditions were described as unsafe and unsanitary.

A Fairfield County man was arrested after his dogs attacked and injured a victim in November, police said.
Erasmo L. Farinas, 52, of Wilton, was arrested on a warrant on Monday, Dec. 23, stemming from an incident on Nov. 23, at approximately 4: 30 p.m., according to the Wilton police report. Police say the warrant was issued after his roaming dog or dogs attacked and injured a victim in town.
Police allege Farinas failed to meet several legal requirements for dog ownership and allowed his dogs to roam unsupervised.

Police in Connecticut are searching for a witness who saw a woman allegedly throw two kittens out of her moving car, killing both.
The incident occurred in New Haven County around 9:45 a.m., Monday, July 8, in Naugatuck.
According to the Naugatuck Police, after receiving reports of the woman throwing the kittens out of a moving car, officers located the kittens, about four to five months old, dead in the area of North Church Street / Route 63 by the dam.
