New details about a kidnapping and sexual assault reveal it was the sexual predator’s nicotine addiction that eventually gave him away to the police.
Joshua Besaw, 37, of Thompson, in Windham County, Connecticut, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, March 1, followed by 20 years of supervised release for kidnapping and sexual assault.
The assault happened in 2019 when, according to court documents, Besaw encountered a girl at May Street Park in Webster, Massachusetts, and tricked her into entering his vehicle, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut, said.

An Avon counselor who worked in the New Haven Public School District allegedly billed Medicaid hundreds of times for services he never provided - and at least some of those charges were made while he was on a cruise to the Bahamas.
Cortney Dunlap, 36, of Avon, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and charged with health care fraud and making false statements relating to health care matters, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut.

The man who stuck a gun into a woman’s neck carjacked her vehicle and went on a crime spree has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Arno Smith, 57, of Hartford, pleaded guilty to one charge of a Hobbs Act robbery, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut, said. Hobbs applies in instances of interstate or foreign attempted or real robbery.
Between the time of the carjacking and his arrest, Smith robbed 7 places including grocery stores, rental facilities, retailers, and an inn, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Crash Leads To Ex-New Haven Convict's Arrest
An ex-convict is facing jail time after a car crash led police to find a firearm in his possession.
Chaze Yopp, 27, of New Haven, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in U.S. District Court to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut said.
He is out on a $25,000 bond pending sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.
Yopp drew suspicion in January after New Haven Police tried to pull over an SUV, in which he was a passenger, for multiple motor vehicle violations, court documents said.

Two East Hartford men have been indicted by a federal grand jury in New Haven on charges related to the sex trafficking of a minor.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, Joel “Joey Guapo” Lindsay, 22, and Joseph Pina, 23, both of East Hartford were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor. Linsay is also charged with sex trafficking of a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut.

Jermayne Butler - aka: “Main,” “Main Live,” “Liver” - age 39, of New Haven, was sentenced Monday, Aug. 10 to 78 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut.
