Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with the brutal carjacking and beating of the vehicle owner in Fairfield County.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, Westport Police arrested one of the teens in connection with the carjacking that took place in Westport around 3:50 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17 on Bayberry Lane.
Based on information obtained by the Detective Bureau, a warrant to search a residence in Hartford County in Berlin was secured, said Lt. Eric Woods, of the Westport Police.

Residents in one Connecticut community can sleep especially soundly knowing that their town is the safest in the nation, according to a new study.
A new study from Neighborhood Scout pronounced the town of Ridgefield, in Fairfield County, the safest out of any in the nation.
The report revealed the 100 safest cities in the US with 25,000 or more people, using data on the total number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents.
These communities have some of the lowest rates of burglary, theft, murder, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault in the nation.

A 20-something Connecticut man who used a riot shield as a weapon and pinned an officer between doors has been sentenced for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
Fairfield County resident Patrick Edward McCaughey III, age 25, of Ridgefield, was sentenced on Friday, April 14, to seven-and-a-half years in prison on nine offenses, said Matthew M. Graves, US Attorney for the District of Columbia.
