Details Released On Crash That Caused I-684 Closure, Serious Injuries To Three Children
Details have been released following the serious New Year's Day crash that caused the hours-long closure of a stretch of I-684 and in which three children were seriously injured, two of whom were ejected from the vehicle involved.
The crash happened northbound on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at around 11:10 a.m. in Bedford.
An initial state police investigation found the driver, Maribel Mota, 49, of Waterbury, Connecticut, operating a 2019 Toyota Corolla, in the area of mile marker 11.2, fell asleep while behind the wheel.

Man Killed In Single-Vehicle I-684 Crash
A Westchester man was killed during a single-vehicle crash on I-684 in the town of North Castle.
John M. Saunders, 74, of Mamaroneck, was killed around 7:20 p.m., Sunday, July 28 while traveling southbound on the highway, said Trooper AJ Hicks, spokesman for the New York State Police.
An initial investigation found that Saunders was driving a 2014 Dodge Charger, in the center lane when he veered right, and then veered across the center lane into the left lane for an unknown reason, Hicks said.
The vehicle then struck the center guard rail and rolled over into the median.
