Young Wilton Runner Captures Regional Crown

WILTON, Conn. – Aaron Breene of the Wilton Running Club won the U.S. Track and Field Region 1 cross country championship Sunday in Queensbury, N.Y.

Competing in the Midget Boys division for 11- and 12-year-olds, Breene covered the 3-kilometer course in 10:37. He won the race by over eight seconds and beat a field that included 121 other runners. It was the largest field among the 12 races at the regional championships.

Teammate Tyler Zengo finished 22nd in the Bantam Boys (10 and under) race. Zengo finished the 3K course in the 12:30:64. A week earlier, Breene, Zengo and Clint Corso won state championships.

Other Wilton runners at regionals included Flynn Crowther, who was 28th in the Bantam Boys division; Elizabeth Wells, 51st in the Midget Girls division; Juli Hergenrother, 55th in the Midget Girls; and Ben Ruffing, 41st in the Midget Boys. Complete results are available online.
