WILTON, Conn. -- Georgian architecture, once a dominant style for 18th century American homes, is a design steeped in history and tradition. While relatively few homes from that era still survive today, a home listed in Wilton offers a modern touch on the classical style.

19 Valeview Road in Wilton, built in 1938, features a Georgian influence that blends a modern and classical style. The six-bath, six-bedroom home is listed for $2,095,000 by Dori Seamans of Realty Seven.

"It's really a unique house because it was built in a way that takes you back to homes that you would find 200 years ago," said Seamans. "While the style is vintage, the updates to the home are spectacular and very luxurious."

Georgian style is known for its symmetrical design, classic proportions and decorative elements. As it's name suggests, the architecture is commonly associated with the reigns of King George I, II and III of England. The style became popular in the American colonies during the 1700s up until the beginning of the revolutionary war.

Unfortunately, many of America's early Georgian buildings have been lost to development or neglect. However, remaining examples of original Georgian architecture can be found in historic eastern seaboard cities such as Annapolis and Williamsburg.

19 Valeview Road in Wilton is a 1930s take on the early American style. "The architect designed this home as his summer estate and it was clear that he was inspired by the early works of Georgian architecture in the 1700's and 1800's," said Seamans. "The symmetry, top floor balcony and large windows are all aspects of that design." The home is sited on five wooded acres and includes a pool, brick garden patio, an outdoor grill and fire pit.

"The brick facade and the high ceilings are all reminiscent of a great era in home construction," said Seamans. "It's a treat for homeowners to get aspects of the past and present."
