Retired Wilton Police Sgt. Ernie Lepore Dies at 74

WILTON, Conn. – Retired Wilton Police Sgt. Ernest Joseph "Ernie" Lepore died at his home in Uncasville, Conn., on July 8. He was 74. 

Born Feb. 22, 1938, in Norwalk, he was a son of Michael and Carmella Cardillo Lepore. He began his career in law enforcement as an auxiliary state police officer.

Lepore then started a 19-year career with the Wilton Police Department, becoming the town's first youth officer. After his retirement in 1986, Lepore worked as a manager of Luke's Auto Body in Norwalk. 

During the late 1950s, Lepore served as an aviation flight mechanic with the U.S. Navy. He was married to Geraldine "Geri" Lepore, who surives him. Lepore enjoyed fishing, rooting for the New York Yankees, camping and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Marc (Melissa) Lepore, of Trumbull; a daughter, Michele (Phily) Giorgianni, of Easton; a brother, Michael "Luke" (Angela) Lepore, of Norwalk; two stepdaughters, Kimberly and Donna; nine grandchildren; and his former wife, Janet Babbit Lepore Woolner, of Bridgewater, N.H. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk.
