Wilton Woman Charged After UConn Death

WILTON, Conn. — Wilton resident Amanda Denke, 19, was charged Thursday in connection with the death of 20-year-old Pawel Sywak, also of Wilton.

Sywak, a junior at the University of Connecticut, died Jan. 24 after a drug-related incident. Police said they found 24 bags of heroin and marijuana in Denke's purse at the scene in Storrs.

According to the report, Denke is charged with possession of narcotics, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia; reckless endangerment; tampering with evidence; interfering with an officer; and two counts of false statement.

She is due in Rockville Superior Court on Feb. 28 after posting $50,000 bond.

Wilton Police Lt. Donald Wakeman confirmed that Denke was detained by the Wilton Police on Thursday until the UConn-Storrs police came to execute the warrant for her arrest.

Sywak had been arrested in Wilton on charges of possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia in August 2011.
