PSEG Long Island said that approximately 25,000 customers remained without power due to the storms late Friday morning, Aug. 23.
The company noted that Suffolk County saw more than 36,000 customers impacted Thursday night, with many having power restored by Friday morning.
PSEG Long Island said that the towns of Islip and Babylon were hit the hardest, and crews are working to restore power to customers. In Nassau, there were reports of downed trees and utility polls as the storms brought heavy rains and winds that topped 50 mph in some areas.
According to PSEG Long Island, “crews have been deployed and are assessing damages and will begin restoration efforts. As we continue to assess the damage, restoration times will be refined. Crews will work to restore critical facilities and outages affecting the largest numbers of customers first.”
To assist with restoring power, PSEG Long Island is also calling in additional personnel, including tree and line crews to repair the damage. Electric service crews are expected to work through the night to respond to outages.
In Suffolk, PSEG Long Island said that power should be completely restored by 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. Nassau’s restoration is estimated at around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday.
