Wilton Man, 82, Drives Seven Hours To See 1,000-Pound Provolone Cheese

WILTON, Conn. -- Anthony LoFrisco, an 82-year-old Wilton resident, drove seven hours to Ottawa, Canada, to see a 1,000-pound block of provolone cheese, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

The provolone was imported by boat from northern Italy and was delivered by truck to Nicastro’s Italian Food Emporium, where it was unloaded by six men, the Ottawa Citizen said.

LoFrisco, a retired lawyer with a lifelong passion for cooking, has not seen the heralded big cheese since his childhood, when it was a rare commodity during World War II, the report said.
