New Wilton Candy Store Gets Sweet Reception

WILTON, Conn. – Less than a week after The Candy Bin opened in Wilton, its owners are feeling enthusiastic about the future.

“We’ve done extremely well,” said co-owner Michele Mancini. So far, the store has been booked to cater for five birthday parties, two weddings and one candy buffet, and two sets of candy favors have been ordered, she said.

“It’s just been positive feedback,” said Lisa Nuzzo, Mancini's partner.

The store, located at 1 Danbury Road, opened this past Saturday. The idea to sell candy came from Nuzzo’s husband, James, who owns an entertainment business above the candy shop. James Nuzzo told them he saw a demand for candy bars at weddings he worked. “Lisa was going to do that through his business,” Mancini said.

But with an empty storefront in the same building, opening the store seemed a natural progression of the idea.

Mancini and Nuzzo, who both live in Norwalk, wanted to give the store an old-fashioned feel, with bulk candy on the walls, scoops for filling bags and a “retro table” with items such as Pop Rocks and Dip Sticks.

The store also features a holiday table covered with chocolate hearts wrapped in pink foil, red hots and other Valentine's Day-themed sweets.
