Police have identified a person of interest in the shooting death of a Yale University grad student. Kevin Jiang, age 26, was shot to death on Lawrence Street between Nicoll and Nash streets in New Haven on Saturday, Feb. 6, said New Haven Police. Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said Wednesday the department searching for Qinxuan Pan, age 29, in connection with Jiang’s death. A Yale University graduate student who was killed after being shot multiple times may have been targeted and police are investigating if the killing was an act of road rage. Kevin Jiang, age 26, who lived in West Haven, was shot to death on Lawrence Street between Nicoll Street and Nash Street Saturday, Feb. 6. New Haven Police Chief To Step Down
The Chief of the New Haven Police Department will retire later this year, according to the New Haven Mayor's Office. Mayor Justin Elicker made the announcement on Tuesday, Jan. 5, that Chief Otoniel Reyes will retire this spring, although an exact date has not been chosen. “Over the past year, I have worked closely with Chief Reyes and gotten to know him well," said Elicker. CT Officer Seen On Video Punching Man Will Be Fired, Commission Rules
A police commission has recommended firing a police officer who is accused of using excessive force during a Christmas morning confrontation with a resident in Connecticut. On Tuesday, June 16, the City of New Haven held a Board of Police Commissioners meeting in which New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes recommended the firing of Officer Jason Santiago after the incident that occurred last year.
