Police: Speeding Motorist Who Nearly Hit Westport PD Car Under Influence An alleged drunk driver going nearly 20 mph over the posted speed limit in Westport nearly struck an officer on patrol during a late night ride, according to the Westport Police Department. An officer conducting speed patrol at approximately 12:30 a.m. on March 24 on the Sherwood Island Connector spotted a vehicle traveling 57 mph in a 40 mph zone, and when it passed the police car, which was parked in the shoulder, the driver traveled over the fog line, nearly striking the vehicle, police said.
