Westport Road Runners Head East for Race

As the 48th annual Road Runners Summer Series enters the homestretch, the venue moves east to Burying Hill Beach, near Greens Farms Academy. The 8.4-mile race is the only installment of the 10-event series to start there.

Besides the jump in distance from last week's 6.8 miles, the course also features the most climbing the runners have encountered this summer, with several significant hills in the middle of the race. That challenge will be mitigated by the forecast of cool, dry weather, not usually typical for this run. In fact, after a meteorologically daunting July, all the August races in the series have boasted excellent running conditions.

The race starts at 8 a.m., with registration opening 30 minutes before. Because of the small parking lot at Burying Hill, runners are urged to carpool and/or park at the Greens Farms railroad station lots and walk or jog half a mile to the beach. Complete information and course maps are available at the Road Runners website.
