Staples-Warde Girls Soccer Game Ends in Tie

WESTPORT, Conn. – Turner Block scored Staples’ only goal Tuesday as the Wreckers tied Fairfield Warde, 1-1, in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference battle.

The Wreckers (3-1-1) fell behind in the first half following a goal by Warde’s Keegan Thimons. Block tied it with a header off an assist from Megan Root. A potential game-winning goal by Block later in the second half was waved off because of a push in front of the Warde net.

Staples goalie Jesse Ambrose had five saves, while Katie Brennan saved 14 shots for Warde. Staples returns to action on Saturday against St. Joseph at Loeffler Field at 2:30. The Cadets (4-0-0) are one of four undefeated teams in the league.
