Staples Girls Hope to Build on Success

WESTPORT, Conn. — The Staples High girls lacrosse team opened last season with one of the most dominant stretches in program history. The Wreckers won their first 11 games, blowing out just about every opponent that came their way and cruised into the postseason with just one loss.

Then disaster struck when Staples was forced to forfeit its final two games of the regular season due to a controversial eligibility violation. The Wreckers were never the same and fell in the conference and state tournaments.

In the video, Staples co-head coach Stacy Fierce talks about moving on from "Under Armour-gate" and looks forward to this season in Westport. She talks about the core group that remains from last year's team that she thinks will lead the Wreckers deep into the postseason. Staples is also coached by Cathy Schager.

The Staples girls lacrosse team opens its 2012 season Thursday, hosting Guilford at 4 p.m.
