FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Phoenix Under 14 AAU basketball won its second tournament of the season, capturing the Summer Slam last weekend in Brewster, N.Y.
In the championship game, Thomas Rosiello of Weston, Adam Friedman of Westport and Matt Gerics of Newtown led Phoenix in scoring. Jakari Gaynor of Norwalk and Jordam Foster of Bridgeport each recorded double-doubles in points and rebounds.
Ryan Anderthal of Westport and Geoff Santore of Newtown punished the Nor'east Lightning with defensive turnovers and steals that led to easy baskets.
The team advanced to the championship with solid performances from Jared Vishno of Westport, who led the team in scoring Saturday, and Kevin Woodring of Norwalk. Other Phoenix members who have contributed for Coach Shuan Malone of Norwalk all season are Jackson Ward of Westport, Kris Brower-Dammen of Weston and Emmett Witmer of Greenwich.
