Staples Runner Ranked No. 1 In U.S. By National Website

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Staples High School’s Hannah DeBalsi, Darien’s Alex Ostberg and the Ridgefield High School boys team are among the best in the country, according to a preseason ranking by MileSplit.com.

Hannah DeBalsi of Staples is the No. 1 runner in the nation in a preseason cross country ranking by a national website.

The national high school running website ranked DeBalsi, a junior at Staples, as the nation’s No. 1 runner among high school girls. Ostberg ranked fourth among high school boys, and Ridgefield High ranked 15th among boys teams.

The high school cross country season begins Tuesday, Sept. 9. Ridgefield’s boys race at Waveny Park in New Canaan in their first race. Darien runs at Harding High School in Bridgeport in its first race Sept. 9, and Staples girls run at home in their first race.
