Greens Farms Grad Teams Up to Win New Canaan Relay

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Postponing the 39th annual Two Man Six Mile Relay for two days turned out to be the correct decision. One of the fastest winning times in recent years was turned in Thursday as nearly 50 teams of competitors at Waveny Park enjoyed virtually perfect running conditions, a far cry from the heat and humidity that blanketed the area on the original Tuesday date.

Julian Saad, a Trumbull High School grad now competing for Fordham, and Darien's Tommy Ross, a graduate of Greens Farms Academy in Westport, teamed up to cover a total of 6 miles around the fields of Waveny Park in 30:15. That was 52 seconds ahead of Westhill grads James Grebey and Andrew Erskine, who finished in the runner-up spot for the second year in a row.

In the unique event, competitors alternate running three 1-mile loops, and the teams are scored in male, female and coed divisions based on their total ages. The race has been a part of the annual Summer Cross Country Series for nearly 20 years. Complete results are available at the Club Connecticut website.
