WESTPORT, Conn. The Connecticut Blue Jays under-13 team won the War at the Shore Summer Bash tournament last weekend in East Lyme. The Jays also finished third in the national AAU tournament earlier this month in Orlando, Fla.
The team includes Westport players Evan Gilland, Topher Brown, Garrett Stonehouse, Noah Yokoi, Ben Casparius and Nathan Panzer. Players from Fairfield include Johnny Crescione, Drew Speckman, Reece Maniscalco, Chase Mascolo, Jack Myers, Michael Bernstein and Patrick Burns. The team is coached by Paul and Chris Fournier of The Batting Cage in Fairfield.
Yokoi (13-and-under) also participated in the National Team Identification Series. Brown and Stonehouse tried out for the 15-and-under team. They are seeking to become members of the North Atlantic team that will represent their age group in Cary, N.C., at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in September. They will also play on selected dates in August in Allentown, Pa., at the North Atlantic Regional Tournament.
The13-and-under team is 42-6 this summer, with tournaments coming up in Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
