Weston Students Star In 'Willy Wonka' At Staples

WESTON, Conn. – Four Weston students will perform in the Staples Players production of "Willy Wonka" this weekend at Staples High School in Westport.

During the school year, Staples Players productions are performed by Staples high school students, but the summer production is open to residents from other towns.

Anabelle Shea, a senior at Weston High School, plays Veruca Salt, "a spoiled brat who's obnoxious to Willy Wonka and is one of the main kids who goes to the factory," she said. She will be singing "I Want It Now." 

Kaitlin Brozek, a freshman at Weston High School, said she’ll play one of the Oompa Loompa lead singers.

Joshua Metchick, an eighth-grader at Weston Middle School, said he’ll portray a town kid in an ensemble part.

Luis Rivera, a sophomore at Weston High School, said he’ll play three roles – a squirrel, a chef and a town adult.

Kerry Long, one of the directors, said, “It’s fun for all ages, not just for kids. It has humor for adults and candy and silliness for the kids."

Willy Wonka, based on the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and the 1964 children’s novel by Roald Dahl, tells the story of the candy maker who has hidden golden tickets in his candy bars. The musical features songs from the classic family film.

Willy Wonka will be performed Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Click here for ticket information.
