Weston Changes Schedule for High School

WESTON, Conn. -- The following message was issued by Weston Schools on Saturday:

No Professional Development Day on Monday, Aug. 29

The district will not conduct its scheduled Professional Development Day for teachers and certified staff on Monday, Aug. 29, because of the anticipated aftermath of Hurricane Irene. Therefore, freshman orientation will not be held on Monday afternoon as planned.

Alternate plan for freshman orientation

On the first day back to school on Tuesday, Aug. 30, there will be a special schedule in place for the high school. For this one day, there will be two different start times for only the high school students. Students in Grade 9 will report on time and take the regularly scheduled buses that morning. Students in grades 10 to 12 will have a two-hour delay, and there will be a second bus run for these students. This staggered approach will permit all of our freshman students to have time to receive their schedules and complete their orientation to Weston High School before the other students return to school. If any students in grades 10 to 12 wish to come to school at the regularly scheduled time, they may ride the first tier of busing to the high school and would be offered a study area for those first two hours. [Note: Although the timing of buses for the second wave of high school runs should be two hours later than the regular times, without the pickup of any middle school students, these routes will run faster. Students on the second wave of high school buses should plan to be at bus stops a few minutes earlier than the typical two-hour delay schedule.]

All other students in grades preK-8 will take regularly scheduled buses, and there will be no changes to their school schedules.

We will continue to update this site regarding our plans for the start of school as Irene's impact dictates.
