Principal-of-the-Year Lauds Joel Barlow Grads

EASTON, Conn. – Thomas McMorran, the Joel Barlow High School principal who was named principal of the year by the Connecticut Association of Schools, lauded his seniors on Tuesday at the Region 9 board of education meeting.

Of the 241 members of the senior class, 237 are graduating and 32 have achieved a GPA of 4.0 or higher.  Also, 144 are 3.0 or higher.

There are 41 students who will receive a Diploma with Distinction, 42 are members of the National Honor Society, three students are National Merit Semi-finalists and 13 are National Merit Commended students.

McMorran also lauded individual students, including senior Morgan Jordan, who competed in the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad in Houston in early May. Her project on plant-derived surfactants, which won first place in the Connecticut State Science Fair, won an honorable mention at the Olympiad.

Three Barlow students also won Weller Foundation awards, including Brian Allan for business, Vance Hancock for science and Jackson Morris for communications.
