Dunsby, a Republican, topped write-in candidate Val Buckley by 35 votes, 1,060 to 1,025, the story said.

Buckley had won a challenge before Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis on Monday to get the recount of voting in the Nov. 5 race.

The first selectman seat was open after Tom Herrmann decided late in the cycle not to seek re-election afterall. Results on election night gave the win to Dunsby, chairman of the Board of Education.
