Darrid Sharkey, of 44B Roseville Road, turned himself in to police Aug. 11 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said.
After a lengthy investigation, police determined that Sharkey had fraudulently billed Aetna for client services he was not licensed or trained to provide. The billings occurred during two periods of time between 2013 and 2014, police said.
Westport police worked in conjunction with Special Agent John Gasiorek of the National Insurance Crime Bureau to investigate the incidents, police said.
Police also said Sharkey continued to bill the insurance company for services rendered after a separation with his partner in a business that had been dissolved. He used the personal identifying information of the former business partner, who was a Connecticut-licensed clinical social worker, in the billings police said.
Sharkey was charged with first-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, first-degree identity theft, second-degree harassment, conspiracy, insurance fraud and third-degree forgery, police said.
Sharkey’s LinkedIn profile lists him as the owner and co-founder of The Recovery Continuum, which the profile said was formerly known as A Whole Recovery. He previously worked as an account executive, a replenishment specialist at a supermarket, a general manager of sales, and an air freight specialist, according to the profile.
Sharkey was held on $250,000 bond. He was issued a court date of Aug. 20, police said.
