The organization closed on the sale of its nearly 60,000-square-foot riverfront facility on Westport’s Wilton Road last month. It has signed a contract to lease office space at Fairfield’s Riverview Office Park, 501 Kings Highway E.
Save the Children has outgrown its Westport headquarters, President and Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Miles said. The move, she said, will allow for the nonprofit's continued growth.
“When we first moved into our Westport headquarters in 1974, we had 75 employees,” Miles said. “Today, we have approximately 900 employees across the U.S., with nearly 300 based in Westport.
“While we have planned for growth in our agency, we always knew that the Wilton Road headquarters might not be able to accommodate our increasing size and needs. For years, we have discussed that one of our options would be to sell the building and lease office space elsewhere,” she said.
Because Save the Children has a history of support in Fairfield County, Miles said it was important for the organization to keep its roots planted in the area.
“We have been a part of Fairfield County for nearly 40 years. We deeply value the tremendous backing we’ve received here during that time, and made a point to keep Fairfield County as our home,” she said. “We are also excited about our new location, and the opportunity to engage with the community of Fairfield.”
The move to the new space is expected to be finalized in spring.
The Westport facility was purchased by STC Green LLC of Westport. The two-story building has a total of 58,771 square feet of space and sits on more than 2.5 acres.
