(This story was updated at 11:45 p.m. May 4 to include information from police Lt. Arthur Belile.)

WESTPORT, Conn. – A man was sent to the hospital with serious injuries Friday evening after the scooter he was riding collided with a car on Post Road E. in Westport at the intersection of Imperial Avenue, Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee said.

The man on the scooter, who apparently was not wearing a helmet, “had some pretty bad injuries” and lost some blood, Dingee said. But he was conscious and talking when the ambulance arrived, Dingee added.

A preliminary investigation into the crash shows that the man on the scooter was eastbound on the Post Road when he allegedly went through a red light and collided with a 2007 Volvo, Westport Police Lt. Arthur Belile reported. The Volvo, which was westbound, was making a left turn onto Imperial Avenue.

The accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. The driver of the Volvo was not injured. The accident was cleared after 7:30 p.m.

The accident remained under investigation by Westport Police.
