Matthew Faillace, 33, of Davis Hill Road, pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter in late May. He was sentenced Wednesday in Norwalk Superior Court, The Hour said.
He had faced five to eight years in prison. Judge William Wenzel also sentenced him to five years of probation and ordered him to perform 250 hours of community service, attend two victims impact panels and pay a $1,000 fine, The Hour said.
Faillace was driving on West Rocks Road in Norwalk on Sept. 1, 2013, when his car struck a curb and left the road, according to accident investigators. The car struck a street sign and a tree before coming to rest in the road, police said.
Both Faillace and a passenger, 25-year-old Bridgeport resident Maikol Chumasero, were taken to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries. Chumasero died of his injuries on Sept. 5.
A police investigation found that Faillace had a blood alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08, The Hour said.
