The Weston Police Department was busy Wednesday afternoon clearing downed trees and power lines. Connecticut Light & Power reported 48 Weston homes were without power as of 5:50 p.m.
Lords Highway was closed between School Road and Route 53. Also, Godfrey Road East between Powder Horn Hill and Tubbs Spring Road was closed. Other roads were also closed, but police officials said that most would be open soon. The utility company and the town highway department had crews working to restore power and clear roads.
Detective Carl Filsinger sent out an e-mail advising motorists to be cautious. "Do not attempt to move limbs and branches, as power lines may be involved," Filsinger stated. "This includes limbs hanging down to the road or in driveways as they may conduct power. It is not a good idea to clear debris in the dark, as power lines are hard to see as it becomes dark and they are hidden by limbs and branches."
"When in doubt do nothing. If you know of anyone who may have special needs, reach out to see if they are okay. Be careful, cautious, and stay safe."
