One Killed, One Injured in Westport Shooting

WESTPORT, Conn. – One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting Thursday night at YZ Jewelers, Police Chief Dale Call said early Friday.

The identities of the men were not yet known. Call said there were no suspects in the shooting, and it was not known whether it was a robbery.

"It's very, very early in the investigation," Call said, adding he hoped the survivor would be able to provide police with more information.

Police were called to the shop at 431 Post Road E., located on the second floor of the Compo Shopping Center above Cohen's Fashion Optical, at about 10 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the shooting victims inside the shop. Both men were transported to Norwalk Hospital, but one was pronounced dead upon arrival, Call said.

People coming out of the nearby Gold's Delicatessen early Friday were unaware the shooting had happened.

Call said he did not know the age of the victims. State police with a K-9 officer were called in to help with the investigation.
