Library Gets Wild Roof Bids

J. Antonelli Roofing of Stamford did not submit the lowest of the "wildly different" bids to reroof the Wilton Library, but the Building Committee felt the company was the best fit for the job. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday night to award the contract to Antonelli for $186,338.

There were two other bids -- one from the Construction Queen of Weston for $98,000 and another for $220,000 from Barrett Roofing of Danbury.

Don Gary of the Building Committee said there were several issues that led to the decision: Barrett is busy with the middle school roofing project, and the committee thought one of the bids may not reflect the actual cost. An estimate showed that just raw materials would cost $70,000.

Gary said Antonelli is " a company of good reputation and we felt very comfortable with them." Only part of the roof will be replaced. Construction should start around August 1, according to Gary.
