REDDING, Conn. The road work in Georgetown thats delaying traffic should be completed in August, providing new sidewalks, street lights and road widening that will benefit traffic, pedestrians and Main Street businesses.
A state grant of $1.8 million is financing the work, which is taking place on Route 107 near the intersection of Route 57.
The configuration was approved years ago by the State Traffic Commission as part of the requirements for the development of the Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill, said Redding First Selectman Natalie Ketcham. The development has been stalled, so the town was able to get funds to make it happen and its all on state road, so the state had to be supportive of the plans.
A separate grant of $425,000 is paying for work done on Portland Avenue in conjunction with the wire mill, she said.
The road project was started in October, but only minimal work was done over the winter. Now its full speed ahead as project near completion. Its a benefit to the town and residents of the area who would like to patronize local businesses, Ketcham said.
