Enjoy a Weston Farmers' Market at Norfield Grange

WESTON, Conn. — If you’re looking for a local farmers’ market with a national identity, check out the Norfield Grange on Good Hill Road any Saturday this spring, where you’ll find farm-fresh produce, seafood, baked goods, live plants and an assortment of friendly vendors eager to satisfy your needs.

The national identity has its ties to the Grange, a farmers’ alliance that was founded in the 1880s and continues to operate today with 56 groups in Connecticut.

Weston’s Grange was originally located on Norfield Road but was moved to a building on Good Hill Road that was restored by farmers. The building hosts community events, with the farmers’ market held in the yard.

Farmers’ markets are held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until June 9. Summer farmers’ markets will be held at the Weston Historical Society. Then the Norfield Grange will host markets from the first weekend in October through next June.

Chris Hamilton of Trumbull operates Molly & Murphy All Natural Irish Dog Biscuits, selling a variety of home-baked biscuits for canine consumers.

“I’m a graphic designer and I had a belief in my head to take on the challenge, so I grabbed some recipes, did some research and taught myself how to bake,” Hamilton said. He bakes the biscuits in his kitchen and says, “Dogs love them.”

The Whistlestop Bakery in Ridgefield sells a variety of fresh baked goods at its booth, including pies, brownies, muffins, cookies and cakes. “We’re here every Saturday,” said Ben Dekle, a store employee.

Rose Tantillo of Redding sells her husband’s Fresh Pastabilities specialties, from ravioli and manicotti to homemade sauces. “The pasta is handmade,” she said.

Among the shoppers at Norfield Grange were Martha Wallace and her mother, Constance DuBois, of Fairfield. “It’s our first time here and it’s a wonderful display,” Wallace said. “It’s good weather and Mother’s Day is this weekend, so it’s a wonderful outing.”
