Seven burglaries last weekend have left Easton residents feeling uneasy and questioning how a string of crimes could hit their quiet town.
"Apparently nowhere is safe," said one terrified victim, who asked to remain anonymous. Burglars burst into his home just after midnight on Saturday through an unlocked back door. They entered a bedroom and stole his father's high school rings and his sister's necklace. Despite this, he felt relatively lucky. "Our house was in better shape than some I've heard," he said.
Police Chief John Solomon said the break-ins are believed to be related although no one has been arrested. He said such a string of burglaries is unusual in town and the police are doing their best to find the perpetrators.
Solomon encourages residents to not be embarrassed or afraid to report any suspicious activity in town. They should keep their doors locked and alarms set. The only home that had an alarm system set was on Cross Bow Lane and it chased the burglars away before they could steal anything. He said most if not all victims were out at the time of the break-ins.
Homes on Stonesthrow Road, North Park Avenue, Tatetuck Trail, Barrows Road, Bayberry Lane, Grace View Drive and Cross Bow Lane were broken into between Friday night and Sunday. Not all homes have yet to identify the items stolen, a home on Tatetuck had $5,200 worth in jewelry and $1,250 signed sports memorabilia taken.
