Weston is about to become a little more earth-friendly. First Selectman Gayle Weinstein will be among notables speaking at a dedication ceremony Thursday for a solar panel system for the Board of Education Building.
The 7-kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic system will be welcomed by several other officials including Daniel Clarke, director of school facilities for the Board of Education, Deirdre Doran, Weston's Committee for Sustainability chair as well as Joshua Ross of Ross Solar Group and Bob Wall, director of Energy Market Initiatives for the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
Weston, which joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Community in 2007, earned 4 kW through becoming a part of the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program. The town also chose to supplement its earnings with an additional 3 kW. The cost will be split with CCEF.
Weston is one of just 14 towns in the state that is involved in the program to teach residents how to save energy, according to the release. The town also plans to buy a fuel cell to be placed at the high school to provide a percentage of the power for the school.
