Baron's South Plan To Be Aired

The public will get its first chance this coming Tuesday to hear about plans for a senior living complex on Baron's South. First Selectman Gordon Joseloff and Selectwoman Shelly Kassen will present the plans to the Long-Range Planning Committee of the Representative Town Meeting and the Commissioner for Senior Services.

The Baron's South location would allow a home for seniors to sit next to the Center for Senior Activities. The library and other key Westport services are nearby. The site was one of the locations flagged by Y Downtown as possible location for a new YMCA.

A 2007 study commissioned by the town said the site would be best-suited for housing.  The proposal calls for independent senior living with some assisted living services. There would also be a limited skilled nursing facility. A partnership with a nonprofit management company would help keep the cost to taxpayers down.

Joseloff and Kassen will make their presentation at 7 p.m. at the Westport Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Ave. The public is invited and will be allowed to share their thoughts on the project.
