These Moms Know Tween Style

When Weston moms Carrie Shea, Kristin Adams and Tami Campos noticed there weren't a lot of unique "tweenage" clothes being sold that their seventh grade daughters were willing to sport down the halls of their middle school, they took matters into their own hands. And so Lil' Kate and Campy was born.

Named after their three daughters, Lilly "Lil" Shea, Kaitlin "Kate" Brozek and Hannah "Campy" Campos, the online business does trunk shows, birthday parties, last minute gifts, camp care packages, and even a fashion show in October.

The trio, which officially opened the business in March, uses the opportunity to teach their children a thing or two about business and about giving back by giving 5 percent of monthly sales to Kids in Crisis.

"As much as we believe in teaching the girls the business and they're learning all about wholesale and retail and markups and marketing, it's also a good lesson to teach them to give back," said Kristin.

But no high-end formal wear, rubberband jump rope or loungepant goes to sale without approval of the girls and their brothers (who inspired the Lil' Broz boys line). "They know what their friends want," said Shea.

"They'll be wearing stuff in school and it's gotten to the point where people will come up to my daughter and go, 'Lil' Kate and Campy?'" said Adams. "Even if they don't realize it, they're helping immensely with the marketing of the products."

The company has two unique products they created: the "Bling It On" line, which allows customers to pick bejeweled designs clothing and a line of customized lounge pants with mix and match fabric panels that Carrie's daughter came up with.

"The three of us are great friends," said Carrie of Tami and Kristin. "I think the three of us bring completely different backgrounds to this and it works pretty well."
