Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of the Norwalk Islands, a nonprofit conservancy group founded to preserve and protect the Norwalk Islands, and Live Green CT, a green living advocacy group.
Started in 2003 by the South Yuba River Citizens League watershed advocacy group, the festival hosts a national tour in 100 communities and features hundreds of award-winning films, guest speakers, celebrities and activists.
The goal of the films is not only to educate but also to inspire community environmental participation and advocacy.
One of the films to be shown is “One Beach.” Underwritten by Barefoot Wines, the film tells the stories of six people affected by littered beaches and their creative solutions to keep beaches “barefoot friendly.”
“Huck,” another featured film, takes a look at waterfall kayaking.
“Facing Climate Change: Oyster Farms” focuses on ocean acidification and how it impacts an oyster’s growth cycle, and in turn, oyster farms.
The festival will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave. The films will begin at 7 p.m. Exhibitors and vendors will be on display throughout the event.
