Easton Church Celebrates 250th Anniversary

EASTON, Conn. The Easton Congregational Church was founded Oct. 14, 1762 and Sunday will be its 250th anniversary.

In honor of the occasion, church historian Jonathon Stock will discuss its history at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Old Academy Building, the oldest public building in Easton, which is across the street from the church at 336 Westport Road.

Stock, who lives in Fairfield, said, "My lecture will focus on how you can celebrate church history by understanding it." He will describe how he and fellow church members transcribed hand-written records into typescript and an electronic format that documents major events that shaped town and parish history.

The lecture is part of a full-day celebration that starts at 10 a.m. with a Colonial service that will be followed by a walking tour of the church and its grounds. Another walking tour of the Old Academy Building and Church Sancturay will follow Stock’s lecture.

The day’s events are open to the public with donations suggested.
