Route 53 in Redding has been closed for the project since mid-June at Umpawaug Road in both directions, causing a backroad detour. The state Department of Transportation says the detour is expected to end on Aug. 23.
The project includes replacing the abutments, deck and parapets along with minor safety improvements at the bridge. The project has cost $2.7 million and is scheduled to be completed in September.
