CT Man Admits To Posing As Dead Sister To Steal Benefits
A man in Connecticut has admitted to posing as his dead sister in a scheme to steal benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Woodstock resident John Deppert, 64, pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to one count of theft of government property in relation to his scam to steal tens of thousands of dollars, U.S. Attorney John Durham announced. More than a dozen men are facing charges for their roles in a Connecticut-based drug ring that distributed heroin and cocaine. U.S. Attorney John Durham and Norwich Police Chief Patrick Daley announced this week that earlier this month, a federal grand jury in Hartford has indicted 13 people who are charged with allegedly trafficking narcotics. Eversource Launches $80M Tree Trimming Project
Eversource has invested $80 million in tree-trimming projects across 4,000 miles of electric lines in Connecticut this year. That money will help the company remove hazardous trees to make the Eversource service more reliable to customers, the utility said in a news release.
