Death Of Fairfield County HS Player Mourned Inside, Outside Hockey World The death of a young athlete who died during a collision between two hockey players on the ice during a game earlier this week is being mourned in areas near and far from both inside and outside the hockey community. Fairfield County resident Teddy Balkind was 16 years old and a 10th-grader at the St. Luke’s School in New Canaan. The incident that led to his death happened around 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, during a junior varsity game at the Brunswick Upper School in Greenwich. Covid-19: First Practice Date Set For CT High School Sports Play ball! The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) laid out its plan to kickstart winter sports as the state continues combating the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the CIAC, the first practice date for winter sports has been scheduled for no earlier than Tuesday, Jan. 19 - after the MLK Day holiday - with games set to start on or after Monday, Feb. 8.
