Tickborne Illness Causes Allergy To Red Meat, CDC Warns
A tickborne illness that causes an allergy to red meat is believed to have affected nearly half a million Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Alpha-gal Syndrome can be life-threatening, the CDC says. Although cases are increasing, patients report limited healthcare provider awareness of the condition. CT Resident Bitten By Lone Star Tick Required Two Emergency-Room Visits
An area resident who was one of the first in the region to be bitten by a tick linked to a variety of diseases required two emergency room visits. The amblyomma americanum tick, known as the lone star tick, is usually found in southern states, especially the Southwest,.
