Take Action To Save Local News In Connecticut
As in the rest of the country, Connecticut-based news companies are facing difficult times as ad revenues (the typical source of income) fall. Local, ethnic and community news organizations find themselves competing with regional and national media conglomerates—which may not put their newsroom focus on local happenings—for advertising revenue. And with the loss of advertising dollars in an unbalanced industry, Connecticut news organizations are forced to close offices, decrease the scope of their reporting, and lose staff. An Act Concerning the Purchase of Print and Digital Advertising by t…

And those were the numbers before covid! Long Island’s Marty Geller, creator of the YouTube channel Blue Lightning TV was a little ahead of the curve. He posted his first how-to video on YouTube on October 25, 2011. And s…

4-CT Quickly Makes An Impact, Granting $1 Million Total To Foodshare, Connecticut Foodbank
In the past month well over a quarter-million unemployment claims have been filed in the state of Connecticut amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The financial strain many face has led to unprecedented calls on the state’s food banks, who are working diligently with fewer volunteers to deliver groceries to the many more in need. 4-CT, the Connecticut COVID-19 Charity Connection, a Fairfield County-based independent 501-(c)3 organization launched April 1 that provides financial support to nonprofits serving all areas impacted by COVID-19, has proven pivotal to Foodshare and Con…

Posh Highclere Castle Gin, Launched By CT Company & The Real 'Downton Abbey,' Makes US Debut
How does a Connecticut-based spirits company partner with the real-life Earl and Countess of TV’s "Downton Abbey," Highclere Castle? They connect through email of course. It was after watching an episode of "Downton Abbey," followed by a documentary about Highclere Castle, that Adam von Gootkin got an idea. Von Gootkin was already successful in the spirits business, having launched New England’s first legal moonshine since Prohibition, Onyx Moonshine, in 2011 along with Peter Kowalczyk. Why not a premium gin? Thus, an email was sent and the conversation started. Follow-up calls turned in…
