TRUMBULL, Conn. -- State Representatives David Rutigliano (R-123) and Laura Devlin (R-134) visited Middlebrook Elementary School in Trumbull to speak with students about the role of representatives in state government.

“It’s always enjoyable to spend time with students, we had missed them on their field trip to the State Capitol so we thought it best to go visit with them at the school and answer any questions they may have," said Rutigliano, who represents Trumbull. "A smart group of kids with excellent questions."

Rutigliano and Devlin discussed the Connecticut General Assembly's structure and how a bill proposal goes from conception to being signed by the governor. They also answered questions from the students on topics such as how they decide whether to vote for or against a proposed bill and how to become a representative.

“I really enjoy spending time talking with students and answering their questions directly,” said Devlin, who represents Trumbull and Fairfield. “It is great to hear from young kids who are interested with the laws passed in Hartford, laws that directly affect them.”
