Assistant Superintendent Gina Pin came back to the board this week with request for a 0.81 percent increase in spending, down from the administration's original 2.39 percent request last month, according to the Redding Pilot.
But Board of Education members said the increase was still too much and they could not accept anything more than a 0.5 percent increase in spending, said the Redding Pilot.
Some cuts to the budget that have brought the numbers down include eliminating teaching positions, cuts to summer STEM curriculum, a reduction in behavioral technicians in the special education department, a large $150,000 medical insurance adjustment, among other items, the Redding Pilot reported. In all, the cuts totaled $366,532. Budget discussions will continue this month, added the Redding Pilot.
